Family Chiropractic
Children experience many of the same physical stresses as adults—from falls and sports to posture and daily activity. Pediatric chiropractic care focuses on evaluating movement, comfort, and function in children of all ages, from infants to adolescents.
Dr. Joel Ardner provides thoughtful, age-appropriate care with an emphasis on clinical necessity, safety, and clear communication with parents.
Care for Children of All Ages
Children’s bodies are constantly growing and adapting. Evaluation and treatment are tailored to each stage of development.
Care may be appropriate for:
Infants
Toddlers
School-aged children
Adolescents
Each visit is adapted based on the child’s age, comfort level, and specific needs.
Common Reasons for Evaluation
Children may be evaluated for:
Neck or back discomfort
Postural concerns (torticollis)
Feeding issues and tension in infants
Sports-related injuries
Falls or minor injuries
Movement or mobility concerns
General musculoskeletal complaints
Care is focused on identifying whether a musculoskeletal issue is present and determining if treatment is appropriate.
A Measured, Evidence-Informed Approach
Pediatric care is approached with a strong emphasis on:
Clinical findings
Functional limitations
Individual presentation
Treatment is recommended only when there is a clear indication that it may benefit the child.
Care is not based on long-term, pre-determined treatment plans. Instead, it is guided by how the child is responding and whether continued care is necessary.
What to Expect
Visits are designed to be comfortable and low-stress for both the child and parent.
Evaluation may include:
Review of health history
Observation of movement and posture
Gentle physical assessment
If treatment is appropriate, techniques are modified for the child’s age and size.
Treatment Approach
When indicated, care may include:
Gentle chiropractic techniques
Soft tissue approaches
Movement and activity recommendations
Guidance for parents on posture and daily habits
All care is adapted to be safe, appropriate, and well-tolerated.
Parent Communication Is Key
Parents are an essential part of the process. Clear explanations are provided regarding:
Findings from the evaluation
Whether treatment is recommended
Expected course of care
The goal is to ensure parents feel informed and confident in any decisions regarding their child’s care.
When to Consider an Evaluation
You may consider scheduling an evaluation if your child experiences:
Persistent discomfort
Limited movement
Injuries from sports or activity
Postural concerns
Symptoms that are not improving
If treatment is not appropriate, guidance or referral will be provided.
The Nervous System and Overall Function
The spine plays an important role in protecting the nervous system, which helps coordinate movement, sensation, and many functions throughout the body.
In some cases, dysfunction in the spine or surrounding tissues may contribute to changes in how the body moves or responds to stress. Addressing these mechanical factors may help support overall function.
That said, not all health concerns are musculoskeletal in nature. Evaluation is focused on determining whether a child’s symptoms are related to movement or structural issues—and whether chiropractic care is appropriate.
If concerns fall outside of this scope, referral or co-management with other healthcare providers may be recommended.
